Wedding season in Kolkata starts in November and runs into February. If you want lip blush, microblading or a fine eyeliner line before your wedding, the single most important decision is when you start. Permanent makeup needs time to heal, settle in colour, and usually a touch-up session, and none of that can be rushed.
This guide explains the timeline we work to, what healing actually looks like, who should wait, and how to brief your bridal makeup artist. It does not quote prices for each procedure, because those depend on the work involved. Call or WhatsApp us for a current quote at Ballygunge or Gariahat.

The short answer
Start 10 to 12 weeks before the wedding. Plan for two sessions about 4 to 6 weeks apart, finish the touch-up at least 4 weeks before the date, and keep the last 2 to 3 weeks free of any new procedure on the face.
The 12-week timeline
| When | What happens | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 12 weeks before | Consultation. Colour and shape are chosen. First session. | Bring a photo of the lip or brow colour you like, plus a photo of your wedding outfit palette. |
| Weeks 11 to 8 | Healing. Colour looks stronger first, then softens. | Avoid sun, sauna and picking. Do not plan photoshoots in the first 2 weeks. |
| Week 7 to 6 | Touch-up session, to even out colour and fill any light areas. | Most people need this. We confirm after reviewing the healed result. |
| Weeks 5 to 4 | Second healing phase, shorter than the first. | This is the last safe window to adjust anything. |
| Last 3 weeks | No new procedure on lips, brows or eyes. | Skin and pigment should be fully settled by the wedding date. |
If your wedding is less than 8 weeks away, call us before booking anything. In that case we may recommend only one procedure, or tell you honestly that it is safer to wait until after the wedding.
Which procedure for which bride
| Procedure | Good for | Things to know |
|---|---|---|
| Lip blush | Pale, uneven or slightly dull lips; a soft natural flush of colour | Healing looks patchy for a while. Colour fades gradually over time. |
| Eyebrow microblading | Sparse or patchy brows; hair-like strokes | Oily skin can blur strokes, so a shaded technique may suit better. We advise at the consultation. |
| Permanent eyeliner | Brides who want smudge-free definition for a long day | A thin lash-line enhancement is the usual bridal choice. |
You do not need all three. Many brides choose only lips or only brows. If you are unsure which gives the biggest difference in photos, we usually suggest the feature you currently fill in every day.
What healing looks like
Most guides skip this part, so read it before you book.
- Lips: colour looks stronger and slightly darker right after the session. It then flakes, and can look patchy or faded for a week or two, before the final shade appears.
- Brows: they look darker and sharper in the first week, then soften as they heal.
- Eyeliner: there can be mild puffiness or redness around the eyes for a day or two.
Do not judge the result before healing is complete, and do not pick flaking skin. That can pull pigment out and leave gaps. For day-by-day care, read our lip tattoo aftercare guide and the eyebrow aftercare guide. For how long results last, see how long microblading lasts.
If your lips are dark
Many brides in India worry that lip blush will not show on naturally darker lips. Pigment sits over your own colour, so the final shade depends on both. On darker or uneven lips, a colour-correction step may be needed first, which adds time. That is another reason to start early, and you can read about the options on our lip lightening page.
What to tell your makeup artist
- Tell them what you had done and when, so they do not rub or scrub healing skin on the trial day.
- Ask them to avoid heavy exfoliation on lips and brows in the weeks before the wedding.
- Bring a photo of your healed result to the trial, so they can match the rest of the look to it.
- Regular makeup can go over healed permanent makeup. A defined base usually makes the artist's work easier, not harder.
Who should wait
We advise waiting, or getting medical clearance first, if any of these apply:
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
- You have an active cold sore, skin infection or inflamed skin on the area.
- You tend to form raised scars (keloids), have uncontrolled diabetes, or take blood-thinning medication, in which case speak to your doctor first.
- You have recently had a peel, laser or strong exfoliating treatment on that area.
Always disclose medication, allergies and skin conditions at the consultation.
Before and after each session
- In the days before, avoid heavy sun, tanning and strong exfoliating products on the area.
- After the session, keep the area clean and dry as instructed, avoid swimming, sauna and steam, and keep makeup off the treated area until healed.
- Do not book a facial, peel or laser on that area close to your session dates.
Permanent makeup or regular makeup?
Permanent makeup does not replace your bridal makeup. It gives the artist a defined starting point, and removes the worry of lip colour or brows wearing off during a long ceremony in humid weather. Regular makeup still handles base, eyes and finishing. If you like to change your lip colour for different functions, permanent makeup in a soft shade can be layered over with lipstick. If you love strong colour changes, keep that in mind when choosing a shade.
Lip blush or lipstick on the day?
Lip blush gives a soft, even tint that looks like your own lips, only fresher. It does not replace bold lipstick. Most brides keep a lipstick for the day and use lip blush as the base, so the colour fades evenly when the lipstick wears off after food and photos. If you plan a deep red or a dark shade, tell us at the first consultation, so we choose a blush tone that works under it.
Brows: microblading or a shaded look?
Microblading creates fine hair-like strokes and looks natural on dry to normal skin. Shaded or powder-style techniques soften the edges and last better on oily skin, where strokes can blur. We decide this at your consultation after looking at your skin, brow growth and the look you want. A bride who fills her brows heavily every day usually likes a slightly more defined result than one who wears almost nothing.
Do not forget your skin plan
Permanent makeup needs calm, healthy skin. Do not schedule a peel or any strong facial on the area around your session dates. For the rest of your face, plan a gentle facial about a week before the wedding. Our HydraFacial in Kolkata has no downtime and is a common last-week choice. Avoid anything new in the final days.
After the wedding: touch-ups and maintenance
Permanent makeup fades gradually, and sun exposure speeds this up. Plan a colour refresh when you notice the shade softening, which for many people is somewhere between one and three years. Use sunscreen on your lips and brows, and avoid harsh scrubs on the area. If you want to change shade or shape later, a consultation will tell you whether a touch-up or a correction is the right route.
Questions to ask any studio before booking
- Who will do the procedure, and what is their training and experience?
- Are needles single-use and sealed, and are the pigments approved for cosmetic use?
- Can I see healed results, not only photos taken right after the session?
- Is a touch-up session included, and what happens if I am not happy with the shade?
- What will I need to avoid before and after, and for how long?
A good studio answers these without hesitation. If a studio promises a perfect result in one visit with no healing period, treat that as a warning sign.
When you are ready, book a consultation at Ballygunge or Gariahat, and tell us your wedding date. We will work backwards from it.
