Mole removal itself takes a few minutes. The result you live with is decided over the two weeks that follow, and almost every disappointing outcome we see traces back to something that happened during healing rather than during the procedure.
The most common one is simple. The scab came off early, either picked or rubbed off by a towel or a shirt collar, and the skin underneath healed with a mark that did not need to be there.
At Truly Permanent Beauty Clinic, mole removal in Kolkata starts from INR 990 and takes one sitting for most moles. If the area later needs texture work, our scar treatment starts from INR 1,490, though with correct aftercare it is rarely needed.
This is the day by day guide we give patients after a session.
What Is Normal in the First 24 Hours
Straight after the procedure the treated spot will look slightly sunken, pink or red, and may be tender to touch. There is usually a thin crust forming within a few hours. Some clear or lightly blood-tinged fluid on the first day is normal.
What is not normal is heavy bleeding, spreading redness, throbbing pain that gets worse rather than better, or pus. Those are covered further down.
Keep the area dry for the first 24 hours. That single instruction prevents more problems than anything else on this page.
Day by Day Healing Timeline
Day 1
Keep the dressing on if one was applied, and keep the area dry. No face wash over the spot, no swimming, no gym. Sleep in a position that does not press the area against a pillow if the mole was on the face or neck.
Days 2 to 3
A scab forms properly. It will look darker than the surrounding skin, sometimes almost black, which alarms people unnecessarily. You can gently clean around it with mild cleanser and pat dry. Apply the ointment given to you in a thin layer, not a thick one. A thick layer traps moisture and softens the scab, which is the opposite of what you want.
Days 4 to 7
The scab tightens and may start to itch. Itching means healing, and it is also the moment most people damage their result. Do not scratch. If it is bothering you, press a clean fingertip flat on the area for a few seconds instead of scratching.
Days 7 to 14
The scab lifts and separates on its own, usually somewhere in this window. Facial areas tend to be faster, around 7 to 10 days. Body areas, especially the back and shoulders where skin is thicker and clothing rubs, can take up to 14 days or slightly longer.
Weeks 2 to 8
Fresh skin is exposed and looks pink. This is the stage that needs sunscreen, covered in its own section below.
Months 2 to 6
The pink fades gradually to match your normal skin tone. For most small moles the final result at 6 months is a flat mark that is difficult to spot unless you know where to look.
The Scab Rule That Decides Your Result
If you take one thing from this page, take this: let the scab fall off by itself.
The scab is a biological dressing. Underneath it, new skin is being laid down in an ordered way. Pull it off at day 5 and you interrupt that process, expose skin that was not ready, and give the body a reason to lay down repair tissue in a hurry. Hurried repair is what leaves a visible mark.
A pattern we see often at the clinic is a patient who followed everything correctly for a week, then caught the scab with a towel while drying their face, and came back worried about a mark that then took months to settle. It is almost never deliberate picking. It is towels, shirt collars, razors, spectacle frames sitting on a mole near the nose bridge, and sleeping face down.
Think about which of those applies to where your mole was, and plan around it for two weeks. If the mole was where a shirt collar sits, wear something else. If it was under a spectacle bridge, ask about a light dressing.
What to Avoid, and For How Long
- Water on the site: first 24 hours completely, then gentle washing around it only
- Picking or scratching the scab: until it separates on its own
- Swimming pools and steam: 2 weeks, chlorine and prolonged moisture both interfere with healing
- Heavy workouts and anything that makes you sweat a lot: about 1 week
- Makeup directly over the site: until the scab has come off naturally
- Scrubs, exfoliating acids and retinol on the area: 3 to 4 weeks
- Shaving over the site: until fully healed, work around it
- Unprotected sun on the new skin: at least 3 months, this is the big one
Healing in Kolkata Humidity
Aftercare advice written for a dry climate does not transfer cleanly to Kolkata, and this is worth saying plainly.
High humidity and heavy sweating keep the area damp, which softens a scab and makes it lift before the skin underneath is ready. Someone who commutes on a two wheeler or travels by bus in September is going to sweat over that spot several times a day.
Two practical adjustments help. First, use only a very thin film of ointment rather than a generous layer, so the scab is protected but not waterlogged. Second, after sweating, gently pat the area dry with a clean tissue rather than leaving it damp or wiping it with a handkerchief that drags.
If your mole is somewhere that will sweat constantly and you have flexibility on timing, scheduling the removal for the cooler months makes healing noticeably easier. Many patients do not have that flexibility, and healing is still perfectly fine, it just needs this bit of attention.
The Pink Mark Stage Nobody Warns You About
Once the scab comes off, most people expect normal skin. What they see instead is a pink or slightly red flat mark, and a fair number assume the procedure failed.
It did not. That pink is new skin with fresh blood supply, and it settles over 2 to 6 months. Body areas take longer than the face.
The one thing that genuinely changes this outcome is sunscreen. New skin has almost no protective pigment, so a few unprotected exposures can turn a temporary pink mark into a lasting brown one, which is post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Broad spectrum SPF 30 or higher on the area daily, reapplied if you are out through the day, for at least three months. In Kolkata that applies through cloudy days too.
This is genuinely the difference between a mark that disappears and a mark that stays. If you skip everything else on this page, do not skip this.
When to Call the Clinic
Healing problems are uncommon but worth recognising early. Contact us if you notice:
- Pain that increases after day 2 instead of settling
- Redness spreading outward from the site rather than staying local
- Yellow or green discharge, or a bad smell
- Fever
- Bleeding that does not stop with gentle pressure
- A raised, firm lump forming at the site after several weeks, which can indicate a hypertrophic scar and is easier to manage early
- Any pigmented tissue reappearing at the site months later, which should always be checked
Calling early about something minor is always better than waiting. Both studios are open 7 days a week.
